Step 1: Developing Your Target Audience

It is important to identify your target audience before you plan your marketing strategy.  Answer the four questions below to begin the process of identifying your target audience for your product.

Questions to answer when deciding on a target audience:
1. What age-group will most likely listen to our message or buy the product we are selling?
2. Is our message or product more interesting to women, men, or both?
3. What are some other things people who like our product or message might also be interested in?
4. What is the financial status (how much money they make) of people that would most likely agree with our message (low-income, middle-income, high-income).

Step 2: Researching Your Target Audience

Questions to answer once you've found your target audience:
1. What types of media does our target audience use? (music, books, television, Internet, etc.)
2. What are the core values of our target audience? (against taxes, for health care, support small businesses, etc.)
3. Who are some of the individuals that our audience may listen to or respect the opinion of? (celebrities, public figures, local leaders, etc.)
